Thu Sep 29 2011

The fitness industry is one that changes constantly. Training methods, marketing tools, equipment, the list is as endless as the changes themselves. These are all things that a Personal Trainer needs to stay on top of; strictly speaking personal trainers never stop learning. Keeping up to date with your industry requirements are just one part of the puzzle. To be the best fitness trainer you can be; you need to have the most up to date knowledge. It's important to continue to update your qualifications, and stay on top of your professional development. This is crucial for two reasons; one is that you need to know what the trends are, and know how to position yourself best to grow your fitness business. And two; the fastest way to increase your client base is to get a reputation for knowing your stuff. Think about the current trends and how they relate to your client base. One of the biggest trends in fitness is age specific training, as a personal trainer you need to know how to train not only the 20 something's you are used to, but the baby boomers and children, who are now putting a premium on health and fitness. Each age group requires a different sort of training program, different types of motivation and a different level of expertise. The best trainers know how to train, teach and relate to all age groups. The best way to do this is to continually update your training. Do as much professional development as you possibly can, but make sure it's relevant. A career in fitness can be a long and lucrative one, if you stay ahead of current trends, and continue to learn.
